Debunking Systemic Racism & Having Common Decency (Pt. 2) | Thomas Sowell | POLITICS | Rubin Report

Gramps Radio 1.4M views April 17, 2018 6:00 am

Dave Rubin of The Rubin Report talks to Christopher Rufo (writer, filmmaker) about his reporting on critical race theory and Donald Trump’s executive order banning government agencies from receiving training involving critical race theory. Christopher gives a straightforward explanation to answer the question “what is critical race theory”, but also discusses its origins and toxic divisive effects. This is an issue that is affecting more and more people as these diversity trainings become more common in everyday workplaces. Christopher first started reporting on the critical race theory debate when he received documents from a whistleblower who notified him of a racially segregated diversity training in Seattle that trained white employees to see their internalized racism and how to “interrupt their whiteness and white privilege”. Since the Black Lives Matter protests erupted a few months ago, Christopher has received mounting evidence from whistleblowers around the country all reporting similar training in systemic racism. These programs encourage people to see other not as individuals, but as defined by their racial group affiliation. Christopher sees the spread of these ideas as dangerous. It is no surprise that when these ideas are acted on, like at CHAZ in Seattle that the activists had a form of racial segregation where there were spaces set up for only members of a certain racial group. Christopher traces the origins back to Marxism and it’s worldview of only seeing the world as a conflict between the oppressor and the oppressed. If we don’t do something to stop these ideas immediately, we risk turning our back on the ideas of Martin Luther King where we judge people as individuals and instead return to a past where we judge people on the color of their skin. Christopher argues the urgency and importance of pushing back on these toxic ideas now.

'Shameful': School district torched for cutting music classes over 'White supremacy'

Gramps Radio 56.1K views April 27, 2023 12:15 pm

In August of 2019, the New York Times published The 1619 Project. Its goal is to redefine the American experiment as rooted not in liberty but in slavery. In this video, Wilfred Reilly, Associate Professor of Political Science at Kentucky State University, responds to The 1619 Project’s major claims.

Have you heard of The 1619 Project? It was published by the New York Times in August of 2019. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary in 2020.

Its thesis: The United States was founded in 1619, when the first slave was brought to North America.

Wait—that brings up some questions…

What happened to 1776? To July 4th? The Declaration of Independence? George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison?

According to The 1619 Project, the Founding Fathers pushed for all that “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” stuff to protect their slave holdings. Independence from England? That was just a smoke screen.

To them, everything that’s wrong with America is tied to her “original sin” of slavery: from segregation to traffic jams (yes—traffic jams!). For The 1619 Project authors, racism is not a part of the American experience; it is the American experience.

Is this true? Let’s look at three of the project’s major claims:

1. Preserving slavery was the real cause of the American Revolution.

If you asked the Founders why they no longer wanted to be a British colony, they would have given you a long list of reasons: Taxation without representation, conflicts over debts from the French and Indian War, and the Stamp Act would be just a few.

Probably most important was the burning desire to be free—to chart their own destiny as a sovereign nation. Protecting slavery? Slavery was not under threat from the British. In fact, Britain didn’t free the slaves in its overseas colonies until 1833—57 years later, after the Declaration of Independence.

Yes, the subject of slavery was hotly debated at the Constitutional Convention, but that was after the war was won.

2. Slavery made America rich.

Slavery made some Americans rich—true enough. Eli Yale, for example, made a fortune in the slave trade. He donated money and land for the university that is named after him. But the institution of slavery didn’t make America rich. In fact, the slave system badly slowed the economic development of half the country.

As economist Thomas Sowell points out, in 1860, just one year before the Civil War began, the South had only one-sixth as many factories as the North. Almost 90% of the country’s skilled, well-paid laborers and professionals were based in the North. Banking, railroads, manufacturing—all were concentrated in the North. The South was an economic backwater.

And the cost of abolishing slavery was enormous—not merely in terms of dollars (Lincoln borrowed billions to pay for it), but also in terms of human life: 360,000 Union soldiers died in order to free 4 million slaves. That works out to about one soldier in blue for every ten slaves freed. It’s hard to look at that butcher’s bill and conclude that the nation turned a profit from slavery.

And many things have happened since 1865. In the almost 200 years since the Civil War, the population of the country has grown almost 900% and our national GDP has increased 12,000%. Slavery did not make America rich.

3. Racism is an unchangeable part of America.

This argument is more philosophical than scholarly, but it undergirds the entire 1619 Project. It’s also pernicious because it suggests that the United States is an inherently racist country that can’t overcome its flaws. Yet that’s exactly what it’s done.

Today, America is the most successful multi-racial country in history, the only white majority country to elect a black President—twice. Of course, progress has not always been smooth. There have been terrible setbacks. But to compare American attitudes about race today to America a hundred years ago, let alone to 1619, is absurd.

Author debunks critical race theory with simple explanation

Gramps Radio views July 14, 2021 1:15 pm

Author and Manhattan Institute fellow Heather Mac Donald confronts the historical revisionism of the 1619 Project by placing American slavery in its true global context. Slavery—a near-universal human institution—has been practiced across almost every continent, often with more cruelty and on a larger scale than in the United States. Heather also critiques the misuse of our history to justify so-called “equity” programs and policies that abandon merit in favor of victimhood narratives.

Critical Theory is key to understanding how the left thinks. They’ve applied it to race, colonialism, and feminism. James Lindsay reveals how they’re going to use it next. Get ready.

I’m going to tell you what “the next big thing” is going to be.

I’m going to tell you because I want you to be prepared for it.

I know what it is, not because I have the power to look into the future, but because I know how the left thinks. And if you know how the left thinks, it’s obvious.

Are you ready?

Critical Immigration Theory.

No, not Critical Race Theory, CRT. Critical Immigration Theory, C-I-T.

Let me explain.

After George Floyd died in May 2020, the left unleashed Critical Race Theory upon America. It had been floating around academic circles for decades, but the Floyd incident—thanks to the left-leaning media—brought it into the mainstream.

The idea behind Critical Race Theory was that virtually every aspect of American life is now, and always has been, determined by systemic racism. The true founding of America was in 1619 when the first slaves arrived, slave labor built the country, America got rich by exploiting black people, and so on.

The view on the left is you either accept this theory, or you’re a racist.

Critical Colonial Theory sees the world as a product of colonial exploitation. Europeans got rich by taking advantage of weaker countries in Africa, Asia, and South America.

You either accept this theory or, again, you’re a racist.

Critical Feminist Theory sees the world as the product of the exploitation of women.

You either accept this theory, or you’re a sexist.

Getting the hang of it?

Critical Theory applied to mass illegal immigration will follow the same formula. It will start from a human rights perspective—having compassion for the poor and oppressed people of the world.

But that’s not what it’s really about. It’s really about targeting national citizenship and national sovereignty using mass illegal immigration as a wedge.

We’re already hearing some of the language. The New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, NPR, ABC, CBS, NBC have, over the last few years, migrated from “illegal aliens” to “illegal immigrants” to “undocumented migrants” to just “migrants.”

They won’t stop there.

“Undocumented Americans” comes next. And after that, as with “migrants,” no adjective at all.

In other words, people who enter the United States illegally are just as American as any American citizen.

By this way of thinking, national citizenship is merely a social construct (everything is a social construct to the left) that keeps migrants from accessing what is rightfully theirs—all the rights and privileges of an American citizen.

Why is it “rightfully theirs”?

First, because you as an American wouldn’t have all this wealth if you hadn’t exploited these poor people for the last hundred years. So, you owe them.

Second, it’s heartless to turn away people from other countries who are fleeing poverty, drug lords, and corrupt governments. After all, America is largely responsible for these countries being in such bad shape. They’d be doing just fine if we hadn’t screwed them up.

Traditional laws of national citizenship and traditional beliefs in national borders do not recognize these obvious “truths.” They are, therefore, regressive and unjust and must be done away with.

Do you think I’m exaggerating?

It’s already happening.
